Social media is massively popular; most people who go online these days do so to go to social sites. However there are a lot of people who are starting to realize that social media is not as the great thing that it seems. There are some very real issues that are causing people to stop using social media sites.

The main reason that so many people get fed up with social media is that it is such a huge waste of time. It is very rare that anything productive gets done on a social media site so the result is that most of the time that you spend there is wasted. There are not a lot of people who have time available to waste. Admittedly a lot of people use social media when they are supposed to be working but as companies start to crack down on this they are finding that they don't really have the time to spend doing nothing on social media sites.

Another big issue that social media sites create is that they tend to form people into groups who all have the same opinion. The internet was supposed to make communication easier; in fact the opposite has happened. With social media sites people from groups with people who all have the exact same opinion as themselves. In most cases differing opinions are not welcome. The result is that people are not exposed to a variety of viewpoints. This is how we end up with a disturbingly large percentage of the population who believe in things like fake moon landings. As long as they spend all of their time on social websites there is nobody to tell them how dumb that is.

Another issue that is causing a lot of people to get fed up with social media is that businesses are starting to take advantage of it as a way to advertise. The last thing that people want when they go to these sites is to be advertised to relentlessly; unfortunately that is exactly what happens. People become quite upset when companies try to advertise to them on social sites but given how many people use them you can be pretty sure that this will continue.

One last reason that a lot of people are starting to get fed up with social media sites is that it can be hard to protect your privacy when you use them. The whole point of these sites is to share your private information with your friends; the problem is that when you are online there is really know way to know who is who. The result is that there is a pretty good chance that your private information won't remain private. As a result a lot of people are now avoiding social media.
